By Derick Peretengboro

In a bold and candid revelation that has stirred conversations across social media, award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has openly declared that she would rather become a second wife than a babymama. The Afrobeats superstar made the statement while reflecting on her personal values and the realities of relationships in today’s entertainment industry.

“I can’t be a babymama,” Tiwa stated emphatically. “But maybe I don’t mind being a second wife. Anybody that can really match me right now is either in their 50s or already married. And honestly, they’re the best ones.”

The singer, known for her hit songs Somebody’s Son and Stamina, further explained her reasoning, highlighting her respect for structure and peace in relationships. All I need is just to get along with the first wife,” she added. “I’ll respect my boundaries because I don’t really like drama. The first wife is going to really love me because I’m not going to stress her. I’ll be on tour most of the time. I’m very respectful and will always recognize she’s the first wife.”

Her remarks have ignited a wave of mixed reactions. While some fans have praised her honesty and maturity, others have criticized the idea as controversial, arguing that it normalizes polygamy in modern celebrity culture.

Nevertheless, Tiwa’s statement has once again positioned her as one of Nigeria’s most unapologetically outspoken female artists-never afraid to challenge social norms or express her truth. Whether seen as unconventional or empowering, her words have sparked a fresh debate about love, respect, and modern relationships in the entertainment world.
