Demolition and Bulletproof Car Acquisition Are False Claims – FCTA.
FCTA Sets the Record Straight on Abuja Demolition Claims and Bulletproof Car Controversy
In a recent press statement released by the Office of the Honourable Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) addressed the spread of misinformation and false publications concerning purported demolitions in Abuja and the alleged use of a N300 million bulletproof car by the FCT Minister, via Anthony Ogunleye,
Director of Press,
Office of the Honourable Minister of Federal Capital Territory.
A statement categorically refuted claims that the new FCT Minister was engaging in a demolition spree targeting 6000 houses across 30 settlements in Abuja, as well as the iconic Wadata Plaza. The Minister emphasized that he had never provided specifics on the number or locations of the houses to be demolished, but rather focused on the removal of illegal settlements and structures for the greater good of the public.
Furthermore, the press statement highlighted the inaccuracies in media reporting, specifically addressing headlines attributing the phrase “I will fix Abuja in 6 days” to the FCT Minister. The statement clarified that at no point did the Honourable Minister make such a statement or imply any such timeline for improvements.
The FCTA expressed disappointment in sensationalist reporting that not only misleads the public but also undermines the role of accurate and well-researched journalism in society. The administration underscored its commitment to responsible urban development, adherence to policies and regulations, and respect for residents’ rights within the FCT. Decisions were noted to be grounded in thorough assessments, community consultations, and the rule of law.
The controversy surrounding a purported N300 million bulletproof car was also addressed in the statement. The FCT Minister himself clarified during a project tour at the Abuja Metro station that the vehicle in question was not a bulletproof car, but rather a regular SUV.
The press statement urged journalists, bloggers, and media outlets to practice responsible journalism by verifying information from authorized sources before dissemination. It emphasized that fabricated stories damage the reputation of respected public figures and create unnecessary anxiety among citizens.
The Director of Press, Anthony Ogunleye, speaking on behalf of the Office of the Honourable Minister, reaffirmed the Minister’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for FCT residents. The statement concluded by reiterating that any contrary claims were a result of misinformation and should be treated as such.
