Late Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni, Wife of warri South-West Chairman, to Be Laid to Rest August 9

The final rites for Late Mrs./Evangelist Rosemary Oromoni, beloved wife of Hon. Chief Sylvester Oromoni-Executive Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area-and mothe of the late Dowen College student, Sylverster Oromoni jnr, who died under controversial circumstances in 2021, will take place on Friday, August 9, 2025, at Ogbe-Ijoh Town, the administrative centre of warri South-West LGA in Delta State.
The 57-year-old who passed away in November 2024, will be buried at her husband’s residence in Ogbe-Ijoh. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren,siblings, numerous relatives.
The burial programme, as released by the Oromoni family and signed by the duo of Hon. Ebike Oromoni and Keyness Oromoni for the family and children respectively, outlines the following:
* Thursday, August 7, 2025: Night of Tributes at the family residence, opposite Oasis Hotel, Warri.
* Friday, August 9, 2025: Funeral Service at Ogbe-ljoh Town, followed by interment.
* A reception will immediately follow at the family compound, opposite Oasis Hotel, Warri.
Mrs. Oromoni’s death came three years after the tragic loss of her son, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr., whose passing sparked national outrage. Reports indicates that she struggled with depression and hypertension following the Son’s tragic death and the prolonged legal battle that ensued.
Her son, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr., died in November 2021 under controversial circumstances, prompting a very loud public outcry. While family alleged that Oromoni was beaten to death by older students, the school authorities vehemently denied the allegations, explaining that the kid sustained bruises during a football game, in school.
The case became the subject of intense media and legal scrutiny, with several autopsy reports offering conflicting conclusions. An initial autopsy pointed to chemical poisoning, while a later Lagos instituted Coroner’s Inquest ruled that the cause of death was natural, from sepsis.
Eventually, the suspected students were cleared of any wrongdoing, and no one was held responsible.
Dissatisfied with the Lagos Coroner verdict, the Oromoni family eventually buried their ward in January 2024, two years after the incident. However, the grieving mother, Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni passed away.
The late Mrs. Oromoni will be remembered not only by her loving children and husband but as a woman who suffered a devastating loss at the prime of her life.

The United States military launched coordinated airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in northwest Nigeria on Thursday, confirming a significant escalation in international counter-terrorism cooperation.
President Donald Trump announced the operation, saying U.S. forces had carried out “powerful and deadly” strikes against militants linked to Islamic State in Sokoto State.
According to official statements, the strikes were ordered at the direction of the U.S. Commander-in-Chief and carried out with the support of Nigerian authorities, CBS News reported.
The U.S. Department of War released video footage showing munitions being launched toward militant positions, underscoring Washington’s commitment to confronting extremist groups in West Africa. U.S. Africa Command, which oversees American military operations on the continent, said the initial assessment pointed to the death of several ISIS fighters, Fox News reported.
In a social media post, President Trump framed the strikes as part of a broader effort to halt attacks on vulnerable communities, particularly in areas where extremist violence has surged.
Nigerian officials described the operation as part of ongoing security cooperation, emphasizing shared intelligence and strategic planning to counter persistent threats from extremist factions.

As the countdown begins for the forthcoming Ijaw Media Conference Volume 2, the organizers, Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF) has announced that the President of Egbema Brotherhood, Alaowei Promise Lawuru, has accepted the role of Guest of Honour come December 2025.
IPF had earlier announced the second edition of its annual event, with the Christined “Safeguarding Niger Delta’s Natural Resources for Future Generations.”
Chief Lawuru, the young Ijaw businessman and politician, received a delegation of the Central Working Committee led by Pastor Arex Akemotubo last Monday, where the invitation was extended to him.
Akemotubo explained that this year’s theme was chosen out of concern for the growing strain on the region’s land and waters. The Publisher of WaffiTV stressed that the forum wants to strengthen public understanding, support honest reporting, and encourage leaders to protect the resources of the Niger Delta for generations to come, adding that Lawuru’s antecedence of service to humanity and unwavering commitment to community development made him a natural choice for the role.
Chief Lawuru welcomed the invitation and spoke warmly about the need for shared responsibility among stakeholders and groups such the IPF. He commended the Forum for using media to defend the region’s interests and promised full support for the conference.
