Petrol Prices Soar to N1,150 Following Dangote Refinery’s Price Hike

Fuel prices in Nigeria have climbed to a range of N1,050 to N1,150 per litre, influenced by an increase in the cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) set by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other depot operators. Dealers warn that prices are likely to continue rising due to the sustained increase in crude oil prices, the primary component in fuel production.
According to NewsOnline Nigeria, the National President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Festus Osifo, emphasized that petrol prices are directly tied to fluctuations in crude oil costs. He stated in Lagos, “The crude price rose to $80 per barrel today (Thursday). Without exchange rate improvements, PMS prices will increase in the coming weeks.”
On Friday, the Dangote Petrochemical Refinery announced a new upward adjustment in the cost of its petrol. The price for marketers purchasing between two and 4.99 million litres was set at N955 per litre, while those buying five million litres or more would pay N950 per litre.
The adjustment, effective from 5:30 pm on Friday, reflects a N55.50 increase, or 6.17 percent, compared to the discounted holiday price of N899.50 per litre offered in December. An official communication titled “Communication on PMS Price Review” stated, “Kindly be advised that effective from 5:30 pm today (Friday), an upward adjustment has been implemented on the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit.”
The $20 billion Dangote Refinery outlined that the revised pricing applies to all unsold stock and pending balances as of the effective time. Industry stakeholders caution that continued volatility in the global crude oil market may further impact fuel prices domestically.

The United States military launched coordinated airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in northwest Nigeria on Thursday, confirming a significant escalation in international counter-terrorism cooperation.
President Donald Trump announced the operation, saying U.S. forces had carried out “powerful and deadly” strikes against militants linked to Islamic State in Sokoto State.

IPF had earlier announced the second edition of its annual event, with the Christined “Safeguarding Niger Delta’s Natural Resources for Future Generations.”
Chief Lawuru, the young Ijaw businessman and politician, received a delegation of the Central Working Committee led by Pastor Arex Akemotubo last Monday, where the invitation was extended to him.
Akemotubo explained that this year’s theme was chosen out of concern for the growing strain on the region’s land and waters. The Publisher of WaffiTV stressed that the forum wants to strengthen public understanding, support honest reporting, and encourage leaders to protect the resources of the Niger Delta for generations to come, adding that Lawuru’s antecedence of service to humanity and unwavering commitment to community development made him a natural choice for the role.
