Economic Crisis: Baba-Ahmed Reminds Nigerians of Labour Party’s Warning

Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, the running mate of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, has reiterated that the current economic difficulties facing Nigeria were not unexpected, claiming that both he and the LP candidate had cautioned against voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the LP Interim National Caretaker Committee in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed, who represented Peter Obi at the event, expressed optimism about the Labour Party’s prospects for the 2027 elections. He predicted that the LP would not only replicate its 2023 performance but also exceed it by winning the presidential election and securing a majority in the National Assembly.
“We did not face a crisis; we navigated a challenging transition,” Baba-Ahmed explained. “No other political party of our size could have managed the situation as effectively as we did. We are now a formidable force across Africa.”
Baba-Ahmed highlighted the party’s key achievements, including their appeal to the Supreme Court to reclaim 10 million votes, though they were only credited with 6 million. He pointed out that the Labour Party’s growth was organic, fueled by Nigerian citizens and the “obedient” movement, which successfully contested with two dominant parties in the courts.
The former federal lawmaker also addressed internal party matters, clarifying that the removal of Julius Abure from leadership was due to the expiration of his tenure, not because of interference by any state governor. He called on Abure and his allies to work together with the Interim National Caretaker Committee to strengthen the party.
Senator Nenadi Usman, Chairman of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee, assured party members that the committee is committed to reviving the party and providing Nigerians with a credible alternative. She urged party members and supporters to be willing to make sacrifices for the greater good of the party.
Ikechukwu Emetu, Deputy Governor of Abia State, representing Governor Alex Otti, urged committee members to work diligently towards the party’s growth and avoid actions that could harm its reputation. The Committee’s Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, outlined the committee’s objectives, which include proper sensitization and advocacy to ensure the election of party officers from the ward to the national level through consensus-building efforts.
The committee has already begun its operations by swearing in members and forming crucial subcommittees to drive its agenda.

Former leader of Burutu Legislative House, Rt. Hon. Joseph Alubeze, has expressed heartfelt birthday felicitations to the his former boss and leader, Rt. Hon. Julius Gbabozor Pondi, Member Representing Burutu Federal Constituency and the Chairman, House Committee on the South-South Development Commission.

Good News: Presidential Amnesty Office Commences Second Phase of Laptop Distribution to Scholarship Delegates

Abuja – The Otuaro-led Presidential Amnesty Office, popularly known as PAP, has commenced the second phase of laptop distribution to its scholarship beneficiaries across Nigerian Universities for the 2024/2025 academic year.
According to a statement signed by Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Special Assistant on Media to the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, the initiative is part of efforts to enhance learning and research amongst students under the programme.
The exercise, which began following the directive of the Administrator, Chief (Dr.) Dennis Otuaro, makes a continuation of the first phase carried out between April and May 2025, during which over 663 final-year scholarship beneficiaries received laptops.
Dr Otuaro explained that the decision to promoting academic excellence and research productivity. He noted that the gesture also fulfills a promise he made to students during his tour of partner Universities in 2024.
“The laptops are intended to aid the beneficiaries in their studies and research activities” Otuaro state, urging the students to use the devices responsibility and to justify the Federal Governmtent’s modest investment in their education.
He also advised the beneficiaries to remain focus on their academic pursuit and avoid behaviours that could undermine their future prospects.
Reaffirming his administration’s objectives, Dr. Otuaro said the PAP will continue to achieve academic succes, contributing to the socio-economic advancement of the Niger Delta region.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support for the programme, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to bridging the human capital development gaping the region.
Dr. Otuaro further urged the youths and people of the region to reciprocate the President’s gesture by supporting his administration’s policies and programmes.
He reaffirmed the PAP’s dedication to consolidating on its achievements in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
