“Through:
The American Ambassador to Nigeria

Central District, Abuja
Dear President Trump,
“SAVE NIGERIAN SOULS
“We, the Niger Delta Movement for Coalition (NDMC), a Warri-based non-governmental organization dedicated to good governance, accountability, human rights, and democratic values, write to draw your attention to the deteriorating democratic environment in Nigeria.
“On behalf of millions of Nigerians who admire your leadership, we congratulate you on your election as the 47th President of the United States. Your resilience and commitment to democratic principles serve as an inspiration to many around the world.
“Mr. President, we are compelled to express our deep concern about the prevailing governance crisis under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His administration has increasingly exhibited corruption, democratic erosion, and tyrannical acts, characterized by:
“Electoral Manipulation: In the 2024 Edo State election, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won convincingly, yet results were overturned through interference by INEC, led by Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
“Judicial Compromise: A highly politicized judiciary, under Justice Kekere-Ekun, endorsed electoral irregularities, undermining public confidence in the rule of law.
“Subversion of Opposition: In Rivers State on August 30, 2025, what should have been an election was reduced to a selection process, with electoral officials openly campaigning for the ruling party.
“Targeted Attacks: Opposition leaders including Mallam Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami (Kebbi), and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (Lagos) have suffered violent, state-sponsored attacks in recent weeks.
“These developments point to an alarming trend: Nigeria is moving toward a one-party state, where dissent is suppressed and institutions are hijacked for partisan purposes. More than 150 million Nigerians now live below the poverty line, a direct consequence of failed governance and oppressive policies.
Call to Action
“We respectfully urge the United States government, under your leadership, to take a firm stance in defense of democracy and human rights in Nigeria by:
1. Imposing Targeted Visa Bans on officials and their families who are complicit in electoral malpractice, corruption, and human rights violations.
2. Supporting Judicial Reforms to safeguard the independence, integrity, and impartiality of the judiciary.
3. Promoting INEC Autonomy by advocating for structural reforms that insulate the commission from political interference.
4. Strengthening Accountability Mechanisms to ensure that judges and electoral officials are held responsible for misconduct.
“Mr. President, this is a critical moment. Nigeria’s democratic foundation is under siege, and without decisive international attention, the situation may deteriorate further. We appeal to your administration to use its global influence to help restore democratic governance, protect human rights, and give Nigerians renewed hope in their future.”
With highest regards,
Hon. Ezekiel Daniel
Chairman
Niger Delta Movement for Coalition (NDMC)
