The Ijaw People’s Development Initiative (IPDI) has raised concerns over an alleged plan by certain individuals from the itsekiri ethnic group to sabotage pipelines in Warri South West and Warri North local government areas. According to the group, this is a calculated attempt to Undermine High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, Popularly known as Tompolo, and force the federal government to revoke the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.

This allegations was made public in a statement by the IPDI ‘s national president, Comrade Ozobo Austin, which was shared with the press in Warri, Delta State, on Sunday.

The statement claims:

“Our attention has drawn to move by suspected Itsekiri miscreants sponsored by the highly placed leaders to vandalize pipelines in Warri South West and Warri North to incite the Federal Government to terminate the surveillance contract from TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited.”

It further reads:

“The plot to incite the Federal Government against Tompolo and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited to terminate the contract. That is a misguided conspiracy of suspected Itsekiri miscreants.”

The (IPDI) urged security agencies and the and the federal government to take the warning seriously and monitor the situation closely.

” The security agent s and the federal government should take notice of this report and hold accountable Itsekiri leadership for any attack on oil facilities in Delta State,” the group stated.

The organization also accused Itsekiri elements of deliberately sabotaging anti-oil theft operations led by Tantita.

“It is obvious that Tantita’s efforts to get rid of the oil theft in Niger Delta have been thwarted severally by the Itsekiris. Itsekiris we’re still harboring and promoting oil theft under covers of ethnicity, threats and campaign of calumny against Tantita, the Navy and JTF have discovered many of such nefarious activities in the Itsekiri territory in Delta State . They are creating territories in Delta State. They are creating bad impressions about Tompolo Tantita operations.”

Comrade Ozobo strongly defended Tompolo’s record in protecting oil infrastructure, warning that any attempt to derail his work would be against national interest

“I want to State inequity that there is nobody that can do the pipeline security job as Tompolo does. Those plotting evils are enemies of the Nigerian government. The Government should not allow enemies of the current government to deceive them.”

As environmental degradation deepens and community livelihoods face growing threats, the second edition of the Ijaw Media Conference is being positioned as a strategic platform to redefine accountability, policy engagement and responsible reportage in the Niger Delta.

Organised by the Ijaw Publishers Forum (IPF), the conference will hold on December 17, 2025, at the KFT Event Centre, Warri, under the theme “Safeguarding Niger Delta’s Natural Resources for Future Generations.” The theme reflects increasing concern over pollution, land loss and the long-term sustainability of the region’s land and waterways.

The appointment of the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, as Chairman of the conference signals a deliberate effort to align media advocacy with policy leadership. Organisers say protecting the Niger Delta requires strong collaboration between government institutions, host communities and a proactive, development-focused media.

In a statement signed by the planning committee chairman, Pastor Arex Akemotubo, and secretary, Tare Magbei, the IPF stressed that the media must rise beyond routine reporting to actively shape public discourse, demand accountability and amplify credible voices on environmental governance.

Ambassador Dr Godknows Igali, former Nigerian envoy to Scandinavian countries, will deliver the keynote address, expected to offer global perspectives on sustainable resource management. The lead presentation will be delivered by Engr Udengs Eradiri, former president of the Ijaw Youth Council, who is expected to address governance gaps, environmental justice and the responsibility of leaders and the media.

Legislative backing will be evident with the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, attending as Special Guest of Honour, while leaders from the Ijaw National Congress, Ijaw Youth Council, DESOPADEC, academia, waterways security and the private sector will serve as Guests of Honour.

Traditional institutions will also lend moral authority to the conference, with the Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom, HRM Pere Luke Kalanama VIII, serving as Royal Father of the Day, and Chief Tunde Smooth, the Bolowei of the Niger Delta, as Father of the Day.

The IPF said the conference aims to strengthen investigative journalism, promote responsible environmental reporting and galvanise collective action to protect the Niger Delta, warning that inaction today could mortgage the future of generations yet unborn.
