The Niger Delta Transparency Watch Group (NDTWG), a non-governmental organization, has called on the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest and prosecute one Jude Gbaboyor. The group accuses Gbaboyor of engaging in cyberstalking and defamatory online publications targeting Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, the administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), and the Gbaramatu Kingdom.

In a petition signed by its president, Comrade Simon Ogbe, the group emphasized the urgency of addressing these alleged activities, urging authorities to act swiftly to hold Gbaboyor accountable.

“As an organization operating within the Niger Delta, we are deeply concerned about the societal harm and psychological toll this malicious propaganda can inflict,” the petition stated. “It is critical to address these issues promptly to safeguard the community and the nation.”

The NDTWG highlighted provisions of the Nigerian Cybercrime Act that criminalize such actions. According to Section 24(2) of the Act, it is an offense to deliberately transmit communications that harass, intimidate, or bully another individual, carrying a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment or a fine of at least N25 million. Section 58 further defines cyberstalking as behavior that causes a reasonable person to experience fear.

“Cyberstalking is a grave crime with far-reaching consequences on the emotional and mental well-being of victims,” the statement read. “It is often accompanied by physical stalking and driven by motives to control, intimidate, or manipulate the victim.”

The group stressed that Mr. Gbaboyor’s actions constitute clear violations of the law and demanded that he be apprehended from his alleged hiding place and prosecuted.

“We urge the relevant security agencies to take immediate steps to arrest Mr. Jude Gbaboyor and put an end to this pattern of cyberbullying. A thorough investigation must be conducted to ensure justice prevails,” the statement concluded.

The NDTWG reiterated its commitment to advocating for justice and protecting the integrity of the Niger Delta community.
