President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of a new Ministry of Livestock Development to address the persistent farmers-herders conflicts in the country. This came as he inaugurated the Renewed Hope livestock reform implementation committee at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday.
This decision follows recommendations from the National Livestock Reforms Committee, which had advocated for such a ministry to mitigate conflicts and improve resource management in the livestock sector.
The committee’s report emphasized the need for reforms, including the establishment and revitalization of grazing reserves and the expansion of livestock production departments at both federal and state levels.
Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, highlighted the complexities and low productivity of the sector, stressing the necessity of strong institutions to implement these reforms.

For some, the governor’s struggles serve as a lesson for aspiring politicians. “Well, aspiring politicians in Burutu should pick the lessons. It’s not enough to win elections. There’re basic duties you must perform when you get into office,” noted one user.
