The recent invasion and destruction of Chief (Sen.) Dr. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON’s home in Kiagbodo, Delta State, has sparked outrage and calls for accountability. Despite an informal apology from the Defence Headquarters, it’s clear that no apology can repair the damage caused by this egregious act.
“The manner in which Pa Clark’s home was invaded, resembling a commando operation, speaks volumes about the deliberate nature of the attack. This was not a mere mistake but a targeted assault on a distinguished national leader who has dedicated his life to serving Nigeria. Pa Clerk’s contributions to the nation as a former Federal Commissioner and Senator cannot be understated, making the brutality of this invasion all the more unacceptable,” Rt Hon. Gabriel Patterson Unyeowaji (aka Igrigi 1 of Niger Delta) says.
“President Tinubu must take decisive action to address this injustice. The principle of due process and the rule of law demand that those responsible for such actions face stiff disciplinary measures. There must be accountability for such blatant disregard for the rights and dignity of individuals, especially esteemed figures like Pa Clark.
“Moreover, the lack of connection between the invasion and the unrelated incident in Okuama raises concerns of ulterior motives. Targeting ethnic groups or their leaders is a dangerous precedent that undermines the fabric of a unified Nigeria. The Federal Government must swiftly address this injustice and ensure that no ethnic group is unfairly targeted or subjected to collective punishment.
“As an esteemed leader in the Niger Delta, I add my voice to the chorus demanding justice for Pa Clerk and accountability for those responsible. Nigeria cannot afford to tolerate such acts of impunity, especially when they threaten the stability and unity of our nation.” the statement concluded.
