BREAKING: Twist as Obaseki’s Preferred Candidate, Ighodalo, Wins Edo PDP Primary Election.

By Admin,

In a rather intriguing development, Dr. Asue Ighodalo has secured victory in another Edo State governorship primary election conducted by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), positioning him as the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming September election. The tightly contested event, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, undertaken under tight security with a noticeable police presence.

Ighodalo emerged triumphant over formidable opponents, including Anslem Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomoibhi, Hadizat Umoru, Osaro Onaiwu, and Arthur Esene. Notably, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Omosede Igbinedion withdrew from the race, while the State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, secured the party’s candidacy in a separate primary organized by a faction of the PDP, earlier today.

The absence of key figures like the Edo State PDP Chairman, Dan Orbih, and other critical stakeholders lends credence to the IduwiniVoice Newspaper earlier report of the said faction primary and the emergence of Shuaibu.

This dual candidacy of Ighodalo and that of the Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu at a parallel primary adds an intriguing layer to the political unfolding in Edo State as the state gears up for the September governorship election.

It is important to note that the major Challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) also held a party primary that produced three Candidates. The world watches with kin attention as the political reggae continues to play on in Edo State.

BREAKING: Edo deputy governor Shaibu wins PDP gubernatorial primary election.

By Admin,

Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, clinched victory in the parallel People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries with an impressive three hundred and one votes. Notably, the faction led by Governor Godwin Obaseki is yet to conduct its primary election. Ten aspirants, including Omosede Igbinedion, Anselem Ojezua, and Dr. Asue Ighodalo, vied for the PDP governorship ticket, with 576 delegates participating at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The electoral committee, chaired by Zamfara State Governor Lawal Dauda Lawal, with Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwhori as co-chairman, oversaw the process. Tony Anenih Jr., the party’s State Organising Secretary, outlined the exercise’s procedures, emphasizing accreditation and conduct guidelines.

Despite speculations of protests, Dr. Ighodalo, reportedly backed by Governor Obaseki, was anticipated to secure the PDP governorship candidacy. The likelihood stemmed from the participation of adhoc and national delegates—aligned with Ighodalo—in the process. While some aspirants contemplated attendance, Ighodalo’s strategic move to connect with loyal party members, like Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, indicated a confident approach to the outcome.

As the PDP gubernatorial contest unfolds in Edo State, the dynamics suggest a two-horse race, primarily between Ighodalo and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, with political intrigue shaping the narrative of this closely watched electoral process.

According to Vanguard Newspaper, Asue Ighodalo, a gubernatorial aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, dismissed claims that his gubernatorial ambition is influenced by the Edo State Governor ,Godwin Obaseki. In an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday, Ighodalo stated that he is in the race because he wants to serve his people.

Refuting the allegations further that Governor Obaseki sponsored his gubernatorial ambition, the former chairman of Sterling Bank, Ighadalo asserted he drew the desire to run the governorship race from his experiences on the board of the Sovereign Investment Authority, where he saw the remarkable and lasting impact of social investment on the lives of Nigerians.

The leading gubernatorial aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party, Ighodalo also responding to his distractors who said that he cannot be trusted with the office of Governor of Edo State due to the fact that he is not resident in the State, said that it is only a ploy to deviate attention from what is on ground, and further affirmed that he is out to serve the good people of the State, which votes he will sure have.
