Ozobo Only Came to Inform Us of His Intentions, We Did Not Adopt Any Aspirant – Kou Delta Kingdom
By Tobouke Jemine
I am Patrick Irou, National President, Kou Delta. I am William, Chairman of Okibou Community. We depose that we are the Constitutional Leadership of Kou Kingdom, Delta State. And we make to clear the assumptions peddled in a circulated publication by Congress News on January 19, 2024.
1. The writer claimed that
“Youths and elders from Kou-Delta Iduwini in ward 11 have Declare their unwavering Support For Comrade Ozobo Austin, Burutu LGA Chairmanship ambition.”
While we are not holding brief for Iduwini Delta, we at no time jointly endorsed any candidate with our neighbours Iduwini Kingdom, Delta State.
For all intent and purposes, this could not be farther from the truth. Every Aspirant has relationship with families and individuals in Kou Delta and we will not deny them of their fundamental human rights to support their choice Aspirant without prejudice.
2. The publication claimed that “The youths and elders yesterday (18th January, 2024 paid him a courtesy visit to declare their support for him.”
We take exceptions to this as Ozobo, like every other Aspirants are free to secure an appointment with some of our people to inform and plead for their support, the meeting was not encompassing and does not represent the decision of the entire Kou-Delta and hence the leadership disassociate themselves from it.
3. The writer claimed that “The youth and elders who applauded Ozobo’s strong involvement in the Niger Delta struggle, had appealed to political leaders in Burutu LGA and governor of Delta State, His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori to consider him (Ozobo Austin) for the seat of the Burutu council chairman.”
We applaud men, who are doing their bit to better society and commend dexterity, but Kou-Delta never unanimous recommended Ozobo or any Aspirant to Burutu Leaders and Gov. Oborevwori.
4. “According to them, Ozobo had contributed his quota for the Ijaw race and deserved reward devoid of family and political hegemony. He should be encouraged to motivate other youths to contribute meaningfully for the well-being of the Ijaw race.”
Our kingdom encourage a level playing field for all and encourage youth participation in politics and nation-building but the applaud was not unanimously done.
5. That the writer also noted, “Speaking in response, Ozobo applauded the ward 11 youths and elders who deemed it fit to pitch tent with him.
“He mentioned that he hailed from ward 11 as well, precisely from Izonburutu, Odimodi, adding that he would take development issues in ward 11 very serious when elected.
“While saying he is the most popular and widely accepted aspirant, Ozobo said he had served Ijaw nation, Burutu and deserved thank- you!, noting that he had the best blueprint to transform the Burutu LGA.”
We declare that elective positions are no Souvenirs. All men aspiring from Ward-11 are well qualified and the ballot remains the only place where each voter, not kingdom choose whom they want to lead now.
6. The report also had Ozobo concluding that “He further stated that he is advantageous in the race because he hailed from major communities such as Obotete, Gbekebor, Ayakoromo, Okrika (Ofonibenghan), Kiagbodo, Enekorogha, Tamigbe, Torugbene, Ekogbene, Endoro, Yayorogbene and Ojobo communities in Burutu LGA.”
“Everything works in politics. We are sure he is not an outcast and hence must enjoy fraternal support of friends, family, well-wishers and political admirers across Burutu Local Government Area, but the meeting doesn’t portray the unanimous position and decision of the Kou-Delta. Succinct to say, we are open for all aspirants to consult”.

Hon. Chief (Dr.) Julius Takeme (JP), the Chairmanship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the Burutu Local Government Council Election, has successfully concluded his 4-day Ward-to-Ward campaign across the 20 Wards of the local government council.
The campaign ship of Chief Takeme and his Councilorship candidates moored at its final harbour in the course of the weekend at Ogbolubiri Ward 9; a successful campaign he dedicated to God, while urging the electorates to come out in their numbers to vote for the PDP come July 13,2024
In the words of Hon. Takeme: “for the past four days, we have been campaigning from one Ward to the other. We went through the 20 Wards in the Local Government. We started from Ogulagha/Iduwini and went through all the wards.
“We want to start by thanking God Almighty because it is only God that can make it possible. It is only him that saw us through, as we drove through all the 20 wards.
“We traveled thousands of kilometers, sometimes in very difficult terrains and not one incident recorded; not one accident. In fact, we give thanks to Almighty God.
“First, let me start with the Chairman of our Campaign Council, Hon. Pullah Ekpotuayerin DG; Deputy Campaign, Secretary Campaign Council and other members of the Campaign Council for their wonderful and overwhelming coordination. Indeed we are deeply grateful for the continued support. May God bless you all”.
