Engr Akpoyibo showers Appreciation for the Presidency’s Drive in Tackling Gas Flaring in Nigeria.

By Anthony Beauty,

Sequel to the signing of the pact on Friday 5th January 2024 in Abuja by the national directive from President Bola Tinubu, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the CEO Global Impact Foundation worldwide provoked by the gravity of the situation and the imminent threats posed to both the environment and the populace urged the esteemed office of the presidency to declare a state of emergency on gas flaring in the Niger Delta on the 13th of December 2023.

We extend our sincere gratitude for the proactive steps taken by the Federal Government of Nigeria in cementing the partnership with Nigerian firm NIGUS International and Beijing Zhogmin Xinjunlong New Energy Technology Company Ltd., a Chinese firm, to combat the pressing issue of gas flaring Nationwide.

In the first half of 2023, oil and gas companies in the country flared 138.7 million metric standard cubic feet of gas. This represents approximately a 10% increase from the 126.1 million standard cubic feet (SCF) of gas flared in the first half of 2022. This led to the emission of 7.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), valued at a rate of US$485.3 million. When converted, this amounts to a loss equivalent to N373 billion using the August 2023 rate. In comparison, during the first half of 2022, 6.7 million tonnes of CO2 were emitted, incurring a cost of US$441.2 million, resulting in a loss equivalent to N338 billion.

The collaboration with the Chinese company is focused on integrating its cutting-edge technology to convert flared gas for commercial use.

This innovative technology is poised to generate Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) products such as synthetic diesel to enhance the energy mix, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for export, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas), among other advancements

We acknowledge and appreciate the collaborative effort demonstrated by the presidency in addressing this critical matter. The recent agreement between these entities to invest $1 billion in advancing solutions to gas flaring presents a promising stride towards mitigating the environmental impact caused by this practice.

In light of this commendable partnership, the Global Impact Foundation worldwide, as represented by Engr Akpoyibo John Perede, stands firmly committed to supporting and working in tandem with these initiatives. Our organization pledges support to ensure the success and effectiveness of these measures aimed at curbing gas flaring in Nigeria especially the Niger Delta.

We eagerly anticipate the outcomes of this partnership, and we are dedicated to actively contributing our resources and expertise to achieve our collective goal of environmental sustainability in the region.
