Governor Sheriff Oborevwori Ascents to the N724bn 2024 Appropriation Bill into Law.

By Anthony Beauty,
The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, granted approval to the state’s 2024 Appropriation Bill, totaling N724,979,313,867 billion, with a breakdown of N316,624,462,711 for recurrent expenditure and N408,354,851,156 for capital expenditure. The governor, while signing the budget named “Budget of Hope and Optimism,” emphasized its role in fostering sustainable economic growth, promoting domestic and foreign investments, and improving the overall business environment in the state.
Governor Oborevwori expressed the budget’s importance as a foundation for delivering on the state’s social and economic commitments, particularly the MORE Agenda. Notably, he acknowledged the budget’s 44% allocation to recurrent and 56% to capital expenditure, amounting to a 12% reduction from the 2023 budget. This reduction, he explained, was a strategic response to current economic realities, emphasizing a shift towards prioritizing critical infrastructure and human capital over recurring expenses.
The governor highlighted the administration’s commitment to financial prudence, stating that, by the grace of God, they have operated without borrowing for the past six months, meeting obligations, and paying contractors. He commended the support of the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly in achieving these fiscal milestones.
The 2024 budget aims to achieve several objectives, including controlling inflation through fiscal discipline, accelerating infrastructural development, stimulating non-oil sector growth, and enhancing the state’s business competitiveness. Emphasis was placed on supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to create employment opportunities for the youth and improve overall productivity.
Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the Delta State House of Assembly for passing the Bill and acknowledged previous administrations for upholding core values such as service, partnership, innovation, transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and fiscal responsibility. He assured the people of faithful implementation, highlighting the administration’s focus on being process-driven and result-oriented.
Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the Speaker of the Assembly, highlighted the meticulous legislative processes involved in passing the Appropriation Bill, emphasizing its alignment with the state’s policy direction. The Finance and Appropriation’s Committee’s report encapsulated the consensus views of MDAs and Standing Committees, reflecting a collaborative effort to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery in the state.

ELECTRICITY: 32 TRANSFORMERS TO POWER THE ARK TO BE POWERED – OYEDEPO
BREAKING:
By Admin
Bishop Oyedepo has announced that 32 transformers will be used to power the Ark when it comes on stream after it’s November dedication. According to him, during the second service yesterday, 4th May 2025 at the Faith Tabernacle, this will be required because of the large power requirement at the new building. The Ark will have 129 elevators, travelators and escalators which will move worshippers including elderly people and in other cases, challenged folks who require healing up and down the 4 floor, 109,000 capacity bowl as well as the 5,000 capacity youth church and 20,000 seat children’s church. Additionally, the staff will operate between the 12 twin tower mission headquarters and use of the staircase may not always be practicable.
Canaanland already had a 15MW Power plant installed in 2016 but this will be inadequate for power needs of the Ark. The Dome will also draw 1MW of solar energy to the facility while the roof is designed to gather rain 🌧 water to aid in flushing the 1,200 restrooms by gravity.
The transformers located at the new power plant required to power plant is much bigger than the present plant.
It is believed to be already under construction and would be finished in time for the dedication of the Ark.
The new Megawatt power plant reported to be 80MW will help to supply electricity to the whole of Canaanland including The Ark, Covenant University, Canaan City and possibly some parts of Ota.
According to Bishop Oyedepo, Canaanland has never experienced a complete electricity blackout since 1999 contrary to the norm in Nigeria.
