BREAKING: Buhari, CBN Disobey S. Court Order, Approves Only Old #200 Notes For Use Untill April 10 .
President Muhammadu Buhari has in total defiance to the extended order of the Supreme Court, ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to recirculate only the old #200 notes for the next 52 days.
This is coming barely a day after the CBN Governor, Emefiele insisted that the banks initial deadline of February 10 remain sacrosanct and declared all old notes of the #200, #500 and #1000 invalid and laid out instructions on how anyone still in possession of same can deposit them into his/her bank account through the CBN.
However, the Same Court of Nigeria had earlier extended an Order made last week, compelling the FG should instruct the CBN to allow both the old and new notes co-exist until the banks gradually withdrew the old notes from circulation.
The order which had been made on a suit filed by Zanfara, Kaduna and Kogi states had since been joined by some other states both on the sides of the plaintiffs and the FG which is the defendant.
Notwithstanding, President Buhari gave the contentious instruction Thursday morning in a live nationwide presidential broadcast over the naira redesign policy which has led to cash scarcity and attendant widespread hardship.
His statement reads in part: “… To further ease the supply pressures particularly to our citizens, I have given approval to the CBN that the old N200 bank notes be released back into circulation and that it should also be allowed to circulate as legal tender with the new N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes for 60 days from February 10, 2023 to April 10 2023 when the old N200 notes ceases to be legal tender.
“In line with Section 20(3) of the CBN Act 2007, all existing old N1000 and N500 notes remain redeemable at the CBN and designated points.”
It is not clear, at press time, if the Supreme Court would take punitive measure against this step that is widely viewed as a contemptuous act by the Federal Government against an order of the highest court in the land.

This has received warm reactions from family and friends with many congratulating the young lad. Former leader of Burutu Legislative House, Rt. Hon. Joseph Alubeze, has expressed heartfelt birthday felicitations to the his former boss and leader, Rt. Hon. Julius Gbabozor Pondi, Member Representing Burutu Federal Constituency and the Chairman, House Committee on the South-South Development Commission.

Good News: Presidential Amnesty Office Commences Second Phase of Laptop Distribution to Scholarship Delegates

Abuja – The Otuaro-led Presidential Amnesty Office, popularly known as PAP, has commenced the second phase of laptop distribution to its scholarship beneficiaries across Nigerian Universities for the 2024/2025 academic year.
According to a statement signed by Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Special Assistant on Media to the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, the initiative is part of efforts to enhance learning and research amongst students under the programme.
The exercise, which began following the directive of the Administrator, Chief (Dr.) Dennis Otuaro, makes a continuation of the first phase carried out between April and May 2025, during which over 663 final-year scholarship beneficiaries received laptops.
Dr Otuaro explained that the decision to promoting academic excellence and research productivity. He noted that the gesture also fulfills a promise he made to students during his tour of partner Universities in 2024.
“The laptops are intended to aid the beneficiaries in their studies and research activities” Otuaro state, urging the students to use the devices responsibility and to justify the Federal Governmtent’s modest investment in their education.
He also advised the beneficiaries to remain focus on their academic pursuit and avoid behaviours that could undermine their future prospects.
Reaffirming his administration’s objectives, Dr. Otuaro said the PAP will continue to achieve academic succes, contributing to the socio-economic advancement of the Niger Delta region.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support for the programme, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to bridging the human capital development gaping the region.
Dr. Otuaro further urged the youths and people of the region to reciprocate the President’s gesture by supporting his administration’s policies and programmes.
He reaffirmed the PAP’s dedication to consolidating on its achievements in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
