Outrage, As Court Orders A Lady To Pay One Hundred And Fifty Thousand Naira For Failing To Show Up After Collecting Transport Fare From Boyfriend.

More details have emerged as a lady named Chinasa Nwibeh was reportedly arrested by the Nigerian police, Enugu State Command and araigned before an Enugu Magistrate Court, which ordered that she pay to her boyfriend, Emeka Nwankwo, the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira Only because she failed to show up after collecting the sum of Three Thousand Naira Only from him as transportation money to visit him.
Miss Chinasa Nwibeh allegedly switched off her phone refused to visit him when their agreed time came. This led Emeka to report the case to the nearest police station, which led to her arrested and aragnement.
The boyfriend, tendered receipt of mobile money transfer made to her and all the WhatsApp messages they shared as exhibits to the court, which held that Miss Chinasa pay the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira as damages with an additional interest of Fifty Thousand Naira, for Emotional Damage/Abuse and Breach of Contract Agreement meted on the boyfriend, being the initial charges preferred against her.
The Magistrate in her ruling said “this was done to serve as a deterrence to ladies who indulge in such a stupid act.”
However, this news has elicited many reactions. While some see this judgement as uncalled for, others think it serves as a deterrent to girls that would collect transport fare and other monies from guys with a promise to pay visit, but eventually end up not showing up as promised.
