Alcohol Data Across The World.

We would like to share some alcohol consumption data across the world. We are sure point 10 will interest you a lot.
1. Based on the World Health Organization (WHO), Kenya’s 🇰🇪 per capita (15 years+) consumption of pure alcohol in 2019 was estimated as 2.2 liters, and this ranked 28th in Africa
2. Note that the alcohol content in different alcoholic drinks like wine, beer, spirit etc is different. But this has been taken into consideration
3. To make it easier to understand what an average of 2.2 liters of pure alcohol means; let’s use an example of WINE which has an average of 12% alcohol by volume (ABV)
4. With an ABV of 12%, then it simply means that a liter of WINE has 0.12 liters of alcohol; and with a per capita consumption of 2.2 liters, then this translates to about 18.3 liters of WINE per year.
5. This then simply means on average, a Kenyan aged 15+ years consumes about 1.5 Liters of WINE per month (I have used Wine as an example).
6. If we were to use BEER whose ABV is around 4.2%; then this would translate to about 52 litters per year, or about 1 litter per week
7. Worth noting is that the per capita consumption by gender differs significantly, with the average for men estimated as 3.5 liters and for female estimated as 0.83 liters per person per year (15+ years)
8. In Africa, Uganda 🇺🇬 had the highest per capita consumption of alcohol in the reference year estimated as 12.8 liters/year; and using our example above, this would translate to about 106 Liters of WINE per year, or 2 Liters of Wine per Week
9. By sex, Men (15+ years) in Uganda consume an average of 20.6 liters of alcohol per year (or 172 liters of WINE using our example, which is also equal to 3.3 liters per week); while females consume an average of 4.9 liters of alcohol per year
10. So, on average; a Uganda female consumes more alcohol compared to a Kenyan male
11. In Africa, the top 5 countries with the highest per capita consumption of alcohol are: Uganda 🇺🇬, Tanzania 🇹🇿, Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 , South Africa 🇿🇦 and Congo
12. On the lower tail are the Muslim dominated countries which include Somalia 🇸🇴, Mauritania 🇲🇷, Libya 🇱🇾, Egypt 🇪🇬 and Djibouti 🇩🇯
13. Globally, the countries with the highest per capita consumption are Czechia, Latvia, Republic of Moldova, Germany and Lithuania
